# Bond vs Carl-bot

Carl-bot is best known for reaction roles, with several modes for them, and for its logs. You set it up on a dashboard or with commands. Bond does the same job from one sentence in Discord.

We build Bond. Every price, limit and setup step below about Carl-bot comes from its own public pages.

Checked 2 Oct 2026 on Carl-bot's own pages.

## Side by side.

| | Carl-bot | Bond |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Where you set it up | A web dashboard, or prefix and slash commands in Discord. ([docs.carl.gg/getting-started](https://docs.carl.gg/#/getting-started)) | In Discord, in plain words. Bond lists each change and asks before it makes it. |
| Free | 250 reaction roles per server, 5 YouTube alerts, 2 Twitch alerts. ([carl.gg/get-premium](https://carl.gg/get-premium)) | 600K tokens a week. Every tool works on it. |
| Paid | Premium lifts those to 1,000, 20 and 5 and adds levels and sticky messages. Sold on Patreon or in Discord. The page shows no price. ([carl.gg/get-premium](https://carl.gg/get-premium)) | From $7.99 a month, for a larger allowance and Ultra. |
| Invite | No Administrator. 22 of 51 permissions. (invite link on carl.gg) | No Administrator. 50 of 51 permissions. |

## What each invite asks for.

Read from each bot's public invite link. Administrator lets a bot pass every channel permission you set, so it is marked on its own.

### Carl-bot

No Administrator. 22 of 51 permissions: Kick Members, Ban Members, Manage Channels, Manage Server, Add Reactions, View Audit Log, View Channels, Send Messages, Manage Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, Read Message History, Mention Everyone, Use External Emojis, Connect, Speak, Mute Members, Change Nickname, Manage Nicknames, Manage Roles, Manage Webhooks, Manage Expressions. (invite link on carl.gg)

### Bond

No Administrator. 50 of 51 permissions: Create Invite, Kick Members, Ban Members, Manage Channels, Manage Server, Add Reactions, View Audit Log, Priority Speaker, Video, View Channels, Send Messages, Send TTS Messages, Manage Messages, Embed Links, Attach Files, Read Message History, Mention Everyone, Use External Emojis, View Server Insights, Connect, Speak, Mute Members, Deafen Members, Move Members, Use Voice Activity, Change Nickname, Manage Nicknames, Manage Roles, Manage Webhooks, Manage Expressions, Use Application Commands, Request to Speak, Manage Events, Manage Threads, Create Public Threads, Create Private Threads, Use External Stickers, Send Messages in Threads, Use Activities, Timeout Members, View Monetization Analytics, Use Soundboard, Create Expressions, Create Events, Use External Sounds, Send Voice Messages, Send Polls, Use External Apps, Pin Messages, Bypass Slowmode.

Bond's invite is wide because its tools cover channels, roles, moderation, events and voice. It leaves out Administrator, so a channel that denies Bond's role still blocks it.

## Setup, step by step.

Carl-bot's steps are the ones in its own docs.

### Carl-bot

1. Invite Carl-bot from carl.gg.
2. Open the dashboard, or use the ! and ? prefixes or slash commands.
3. Run !rr make, the reaction role command the docs recommend if you are new.
4. Set a log channel and a welcome channel, one command each.

### Bond

1. Add Bond to your server.
2. Mention @Bond and say what you want.
3. Approve the changes it lists.

## The same kind of job, run by Bond.

You ask Bond in plain words and it posts the role menu, then asks before it changes anything. The same sentence covers channels, permissions, moderation and scheduled posts, so there is no second screen to learn for each feature.

"@Bond Post a role menu in #roles where members can pick Gaming, Music and Art."

In #roles, afterwards:

> Pick your roles from the menu. Pick a role you already have to remove it.
>
> Menu "Choose a role": Gaming, Music, Art.

A member picked Gaming. Bond's reply, which only they see:

> Done: added **Gaming**.

A member picked Music. Bond's reply, which only they see:

> Done: removed **Gaming**, added **Music**.

Recorded 2026-09-28 on a test server · Light tier · 2 messages · 37 seconds · 204K tokens

Recorded on a Bond test server on the Light tier, the tier every free plan runs on. Server, channel and member IDs are placeholders, the test bot is shown as Bond, and the steps where Bond loads its own tools or pages through a long result are left out. The test server has no plan limits, so the plan limits a step reports are left out. The Always allow line on each approval card is reworded in plain words.

## Where Carl-bot goes further.

Ready-made features Bond has no packaged version of. Some Bond can build as an automation. Some it cannot do at all.

- Reaction roles with unique, verify, reversed, binding and temporary modes. ([carl.gg](https://carl.gg))
- Logs of deleted and edited messages, split across channels. ([carl.gg](https://carl.gg))
- Twitch and YouTube alerts. ([carl.gg](https://carl.gg))
- Custom commands written in TagScript. ([carl.gg](https://carl.gg))
- A starboard, and suggestions that members vote on. ([carl.gg](https://carl.gg))

## And if you do switch, in three moves.

Both bots can run at once. There is no import step and nothing to migrate.

### 1. Add Bond alongside

Carl-bot keeps doing exactly what it does today. Bond joins without touching a single existing setting.

### 2. Move one thing across

Pick the part you like least. Describe what it does to Bond, approve the changes, and watch it run for a week.

### 3. Turn the old one off

Only once the new one has run. Repeat for the next part, or stop here and keep both.

## When to stay on Carl-bot.

Stick with Carl-bot if reaction roles and message logs are what you need, and you want the deepest options for them.

- Your reaction roles already work. Rebuilding them gains you nothing.
- You need a log of deleted and edited messages. Bond cannot read ordinary message text, so it cannot keep one.
- You want stream and upload alerts from Twitch or YouTube.
- Your members are used to prefix commands such as !rank. Bond's custom commands are slash commands only.

It is good at reaction roles and logging, and there is no prize for switching a tool you are happy with. Add Bond for the jobs Carl-bot does not cover, and leave the rest where it is.
