# Discord permissions: errors, fixes and what bots ask for

What a Discord permission error means, how to fix it in the Discord app, and the rule behind it, with Discord's own documentation linked.

The six causes in the order to check them, and the fix in the Discord app for each.
- [Discord Missing Access (50001): why a bot can't see a channel](https://www.bondbot.gg/permissions/missing-access-50001) (Missing Access (50001), updated 2026-10-02): When a Discord bot gets error 50001 on a channel, it cannot see that channel. What hides it, how to let the bot back in from the Discord app, why the bot cannot fix it itself, and the other cases behind 50001.
- [Why your Discord bot can't assign roles, kick or rename someone (even with Administrator)](https://www.bondbot.gg/permissions/bot-cant-assign-role) (Bot can't assign a role, updated 2026-10-02): Discord's role hierarchy decides which roles a bot can hand out and which members it can act on, and Administrator does not change it. How to fix the role order, and the cases no drag can fix.
- [Green check, red X, grey slash: what Discord channel permissions mean](https://www.bondbot.gg/permissions/channel-permission-slash) (Check, X and slash, updated 2026-09-26): In a Discord channel's permissions the green check allows, the red X denies and the grey slash sets nothing. The order Discord applies them in, and why a slash under a denied @everyone still means denied.
- [Which Discord bots ask for Administrator?](https://www.bondbot.gg/permissions/which-bots-ask-for-administrator) (Bots and Administrator, read 2026-10-02): 13 of 15 Discord bots we read ask for Administrator on at least one install link. One bar per link: Discord's default, the bot's site and top.gg, with sources.

## What Bond asks for

The install link on this site asks for every Discord permission except Administrator. That is a wide grant, because Bond's tools reach nearly everything Discord lets a bot do. Leaving Administrator out is what keeps your channel overwrites in force: hide a channel from Bond's role and Bond stays out of it, and it tells you what it could not reach rather than working around it.

Every action is also checked against the person who asked. Bond will not change a role, a member or a channel for you unless your own permissions and role position would let you do it in the Discord client, and opening a channel to @everyone always takes a separate confirmation.
