# Set up an announcement channel

A channel only staff can post in, published so other servers can follow it, with the posts pinned where people will find them.

## What Bond does after the first message

- List all channels in the Discord server: names, types (text, voice, category, forum, media, stage, announcement), IDs and parent category. (`list_channels`)
- Create one text, voice, forum, media, stage, or announcement channel, optionally inside a category, whose permissions it adopts. (`create_channel`)
- Delete a channel and every message in it. (`delete_channel`)
- Create up to 20 channels of mixed types, such as text, voice, forum and stage, across existing categories in one step. (`bulk_create_channels`)
- Edit a channel's settings: name, topic, slowmode, NSFW status, position, voice region or video quality, and thread defaults. (`edit_channel`)
- Set the slowmode (rate limit) on a text channel: members must wait this many seconds between messages. (`set_slowmode`)
- List all roles in the Discord server, sorted by position (highest position = most authority). (`list_roles`)
- Look up one role by ID or exact name, even one above Bond's own roles, and whether Bond can manage it. (`get_role`)
- Create a role with permissions, display settings, icon or Unicode emoji, and a solid, gradient or holographic color. (`create_role`)
- Delete a role from the Discord server, removing it from every member who has it. (`delete_role`)
- Assign one role to one member, identified by ID or by name. (`assign_role`)
- Remove one role from one member, identified by ID or by name. (`remove_role`)
- Send a message to a channel or thread, optionally with components (buttons, select menus, modals) that make it an interactive panel members click. (`send_message`)
- Edit a message the bot already sent: its text, embeds, attachments or interactive components. (`edit_message`)
- Toggle whether Discord displays embeds and link previews on an existing message. (`suppress_message_embeds`)
- Forward an existing Discord message into another text-based channel. (`forward_message`)
- Delete one message from a Discord channel, given the channel and message ID. (`delete_message`)
- Delete many messages at once from a Discord channel (purge), far faster than one at a time. (`bulk_delete_messages`)
