# Auto-delete messages in a channel

Keep a bot-commands or memes channel from growing forever by clearing it out on a schedule.

Categories: Automations & flows, Messages, Moderation.

## The request

"@Bond Clear out #bot-spam every night at 3am"

## What Bond does after the first message

- Create an automation that runs on an event or a schedule, saved only after a dry run passes. (`create_flow`)
- Update an existing automation flow: replace its code, or change its description or enabled state. (`update_flow`)
- List every automation in this server with its trigger, status, summary and how its last run went. (`list_flows`)
- Get one automation in full: what it does, what it is allowed to touch, and how its last few runs went. (`get_flow`)
- Delete an automation flow from this Discord server permanently; it stops running immediately and there is no undo. (`delete_flow`)
- Enable or disable an automation flow, keeping its configuration. (`toggle_flow`)
- Send a message to a channel or thread, optionally with components (buttons, select menus, modals) that make it an interactive panel members click. (`send_message`)
- Edit a message the bot already sent: its text, embeds, attachments or interactive components. (`edit_message`)
- Toggle whether Discord displays embeds and link previews on an existing message. (`suppress_message_embeds`)
- Forward an existing Discord message into another text-based channel. (`forward_message`)
- Delete one message from a Discord channel, given the channel and message ID. (`delete_message`)
- Delete many messages at once from a Discord channel (purge), far faster than one at a time. (`bulk_delete_messages`)
- Kick a member out of the Discord server. (`kick_member`)
- Ban a user from the Discord server until they are unbanned, optionally deleting up to 7 days of their recent messages. (`ban_member`)
- Lift a ban so the person can rejoin with an invite. (`unban_member`)
- Time a member out, Discord's built-in mute: no messages, reactions or voice until it expires, which it does on its own. (`timeout_member`)
- Lift a member's active timeout early, so they can send messages, react and join voice again immediately. (`remove_timeout`)
- List the Discord server's bans, each with the banned user's ID, username and ban reason. (`list_bans`)

## More in moderation and cleanup

- [Moderate your server with plain English rules](https://www.bondbot.gg/use-cases/moderation): Timeouts, bans and cleanup driven by rules you describe in words, with every action checked against your real Discord permissions.
- [Configure AutoMod rules](https://www.bondbot.gg/use-cases/automod): Set up Discord's native AutoMod by describing the rule you want: blocked words, invite links, spam and mention floods.
- [Bulk delete and clean up messages](https://www.bondbot.gg/use-cases/bulk-delete-messages): Clear spam, prune old posts and tidy channels in bulk, without clicking through messages one at a time.
- [Set slowmode on a channel](https://www.bondbot.gg/use-cases/slowmode): Slow a channel down when it gets busy, on one channel or several at once, and lift it again when things calm down.
- [Log moderation actions to a channel](https://www.bondbot.gg/use-cases/mod-log): Keep a record of bans, unbans, role changes and channel edits in a staff channel, so nobody has to scroll the audit log.
