    bondbot.gg install linkNo Administrator

How the links were read.

  • Discord's record

Each bot has a public application record on discord.com. It holds the default install link, the one behind Add App. We read it with a plain request, without logging in.

  • The bot's website

We followed the site's invite link to the Discord address it ends on. Where a site builds the link in its script, we read it there. Each row says how its link was read.

  • top.gg

top.gg blocks automated requests. We read 7 top.gg invite links through a scraping service. A person opened 8 more in a browser and followed each one to the address it ends on. 1 of the 15 we read ends on the bot's own website invite and not on a Discord address. That bot's row shows one link for both places.

What Administrator lets a bot do.

It is one permission. With it, the rest of the list does not matter.

  • See and act in every channel. Channel permission overwrites do not apply to it.
  • Manage every role below its own, and kick, ban or time out every member below its own role.
  • Change server settings, and create webhooks and invites anywhere.
  • It still cannot act on the server owner, or on a role above its own.

Check any bot's link yourself.

1

Find the number

Open the bot's install link and look at the address of Discord's screen. The number after permissions= is the whole list.

2

Decode it

The number is a sum of flags, and Administrator is 8. A link with permissions=8 asks for Administrator and nothing else. Discord's screen also lists each permission by name.

Questions people ask

  • Does a bot that asks for Administrator need it?

Not always. The install link sets what Discord's screen ticks by default, and you can untick it. The bot's own docs are the place to check what stops working without it.

  • Why do install links for the same bot differ?

Each link is set in a different place: Discord's developer portal, the bot's website and its top.gg listing. We did not ask why they differ.

  • Does Bond ask for Administrator?

Not today. Bond asks for 50 of the 51 permissions an install link can ask for. The one it leaves out is Administrator. Bond's default install on Discord asks for the same list. The list is long because Bond's tools cover most of what Discord lets a bot do.

Bond asks for 50 of the 51 permissions an install link can ask for. The one it leaves out is Administrator. A channel that denies Bond's role still blocks it.
